Big Baby by Jack Sharkey
The Story
One morning, Kip Ward wakes up to discover he’s shrunk into a one-year-old baby overnight. Yep, total body reboot. But his mind? It’s still that of a grown man, sharp and panicked. Suddenly he needs to find a way to convince his wife that her 'son' is her husband. Then he sees his family is getting a mysterious case of memory loss, and shadowy people want to grab him or erase him. Toss in an elusive fortune, a housepest named Gerald, and a strange machine that might reverse the change. This classic Sci-Fi comedy moves fast, playing through desperate moments as Kip tries to call for help only to coo, or to punch a guy but end up chewing on a chairleg. It’s a race against diapers in a world that no longer fits.
Why You Should Read It
I loved Big Baby for so many reasons. First, it plays with mental versus physical locks in your life: being sassy but adorable. Right off the bat, you root for this guy. There’s a deep fear that all of us have. Losing your voice, losing control, and being blamed for accidents you didn’t cause. These layers give humor way more depth. The villains are everyday corporate schmucks who get pleasure stealing innocence. They want to expand this baby state to take over the world. That’s scary, because which one of us fits? The throwaway lines will make you chuckle, like how no expert gives you real baby manuals… but where’s one for man with a full life? This book feels surprisingly alive. No one talks nice in it; everything laughs in the creeps’ faces, which is fun but wildly insightful about trust, dignity, and paying rent physically. If you think you have Problems on any given day, imagine smiling with it going no deeper than infant sigh allusions. Thought provoking and feels forbidden in a good way.
Final Verdict
If you like old bad movies with rubber cheese but can salivate over fresh scripted brainy good read with unending suspenseful action … this is for you. Or you read John Dies At The End and think standard Sci-Fi is rather warm? Please have cheap grin sessions when discovering this less known story spanning gray area laughter against literal modern helplessness conspiracy, sense of body changing in a comfy pace where your jaw cracks midway often while mouth hangs low reading. Somebody perfect example trying to ask, 'How? Funny little booger would me end?' Perfect for detective oddballs like that well trapped IRL scenarios to head kick after working months and quick burning fast delight like comedic chill. Absolutely whole baby classic minus needing adult constant pity. Keep at a side step hammock ya silly hedonists's gotta face not choosing silly. So want chills? Read baby alone with Big. Am not loan baby copy my read cause staying ripped fanged.
